Learning Music at The Blue Room

We offer contemporary piano, contemporary Western voice, and general musicianship lessons at The Blue Room, with our founder and full-time educator Samhita Nagaraj. Likening the learning of music to how one learns a language, we aim to develop all-round musicianship by building the skills of playing and comprehending music by ear, learning to read and write music, building good technique, understanding how and why music theory works, learning to improvise, and exposing students to a wide variety of genres and the context that shapes them.

All age groups and skill levels are welcome, especially those looking to develop skills of harmonic and melodic ear training, and improving rhythm.

We do not follow a set curriculum, instead, customize the teaching process to suit the strengths and requirements of each student, and teach musical concepts through songs, games, using the voice and body to understand music more intuitively, and exploring alternative systems of learning melody and rhythm. We host a winter recital and a summer music hang every year, regular assessments to track progress, and opportunities for students to work together in ensemble formats as well. We also offer online and hybrid formats for students out of regular travelling range. Students below 15 are also entitled to free concert tickets at The Blue Room.
